Hi I am Macala. I have been practicing movement for as long as I can remember. In 2009 my love of yoga brought me to Goa, India where I received my 200 hour Yoga Alliance teacher certification. Although I greatly benefited from the knowledge I received, I came home injured from forcing my body to suffer through postures that weren’t easily accessible to me. Wasn’t yoga supposed to feel good? I left India feeling tired and depleted knowing what I did not want to teach.
I stumbled upon Yoga Tune Up® by accident and my life has been forever changed. My favorite word is WHY and this methodology always answers why we are doing what we are doing.
Through Jill Miller, I learned of Katy Bowman of Katysays.com. Katy is a biomechanist who applies physics and geometry to anatomy and physiology. I am currently in the process of her challenging science based alignment program.
I absolutely love the human body. It is better engineering than a German car. And, just like any car, the body needs to be driven correctly for it to perform optimally. Your car won’t start if it sits in the garage and your body won’t move optimally if it is parked on the couch or put in the same position day after day.
I believe that EVERYONE deserves to move, not just the already fit. I am more about health than fitness as some of the fittest individuals are not that healthy. I also believe that tending to the body rather than conquering the body is a better way to go if one truly wants to thrive. By focusing first on feeling best, looking your best is the by product. If you reverse that by just trying to look your best, you may look your best but if you are injured or riddled with pain, what is the point?
